- Ideally you should have a hearty breakfast. Starving yourself with a light meal early in the day will only make you hungrier as the day lingers on, causing you to eat the remainder of your calories in the evening. Eating most of your calories early in the day not only increases your metabolic rate but also gives you the rest of the day to burn those calories off.
- Do not shy away from having light low-fat snacks during any time of the day. These would not only help satisfy your hunger cravings but also maintain blood sugar levels, thus maintaining your weight.
- Stretch your meals to 20 minutes or longer. Eat slowly. Chew your food completely. Your stomach, mouth and brain are all connected and it takes 20 minutes of chewing before your stomach signals your brain that you are full.
- Consume more fiber rich foods. These help in digestion and provide energy to the body.
- To lose weight faster, reduce your intake of caffeine. Caffeine leads to an increase of insulin in your body, which retards the burning of your stored fat.
- Substitute your morning coffee with healthier drinks such as juices.
- Fatty foods are generally taste enhancing. A good way to avoid fatty foods and yet enjoy different tastes is to add herbs and spices to your food. These are generally low in fat and yet make your food tasty.
- Ideally, eat 4 or 5 smaller meals a day coupled with one or two light snacks. Heavy meals cause more fat to be deposited in your body.
- To maximize the fat-burning process, it's best to gradually eliminate having carbohydrates in your meals toward the end of the day. This minimizes your chances of storing fat late at night.
- Try to cut as many calories as you can. Substitute water for soda, baked chicken for fried chicken, sub sandwiches for pizza, etc. By substituting soda with water daily you may be able to cut out at least 150 calories each day.
- When urges for sweets and snacks arrive, try drinking herbal teas such as apple-cinnamon, almond, or orange. These are a much healthier option.
- Avoid foods that have additives or preservatives. These are not at all good for your body and are a major factor in weight gain.
